“Sheldon, could you smile for me?”
“Whatever for?” He paused in the middle of expecting the back of one of her books to set her with an affronted stare.“Just do it.” She glanced at him expectantly.“No.” Sheldon replied after a moment of contemplation, standing up from her couch. Penny strode forward, coming to stand in front of him.“What if it’s for an experiment?” She offered, raising an eyebrow and feigning an innocent expression. “An experiment?” He repeated. Sheldon’s eyes narrowed slightly as he studied her cautiously. ”Are you sure you even know what an experiment is?” he asked, his tone varying between being condescending and genuinely curious.

“Oh, I assure you, I know about experimentation,” she told him definitely, folding her arms. “Come on Sheldon, just this one thing, for me. Please?” she added sweetly, looking hopeful. Whether it was to make her stop asking or her pressing worked, Sheldon conceded.“Fine, I’ll do it! Let it never be said that I never helped contribute to assisting the less educated in taking steps in the fundamental scientific stages of learning; experimentation.” Sheldon steadied himself, as though ready to give a lecture.
“What was it you exactly wanted?” “A smile.” She clarified.“I’m sorry, Penny, but you’re going to have to be more specific than that. What kind of smile are you asking for ? A deceptive one? A joyous one? A manic psychologically dysfunctional one?” he stopped, noticing the blank look on her face. “Why are you looking at me like that?”“How about trying for a sincere one?” Penny suggested, holding back her comment on how almost every smile of his would be the last one he just listed.
He straightened up at this. “And how would I do that? There would need to be something happy or something humorous present for that to happen, and your messy apartment and current experiment are neither.” “What are you-? No, never mind.” She shook her head in exasperation. “Sheldon, it doesn’t matter which one, just try any.” “Alright, then. As you wish.”
Sheldon looked down at her and forced a wide grin, trying to recreate the kind of smiles he received from his friends whenever he was correcting them on various things, or the kind that the people in the cafeteria gave him when he insisted that what they were ordering was not of the same quality as what he was picking.
Pretending was more difficult than he had originally anticipated, but judging by the gentle smile slowly growing on Penny’s face, it was sufficient enough for her so-called “experiment”. He took it as a sign of approval at the calibre of his participation and made sure to hold it, his gaze wavering from her eyes to study the rest of her face. He noted how pleasant her softer smiles were when they weren’t being used to spite him or Wolowitz, or used to enforce some sarcastic jab at Leonard. Her laughter left something to be desired though; the high tone to her voice was occasionally gruelling. But when Penny was quietly smiling at him like that in return, she was actually tolerable. It was an outward social position that was easier to read on her face than anyone else’s, although he did acknowledge that his ability to pick up on social cues could still be improved.
Sheldon noticed a change in her expression when her eyes widened in surprise, just as he realized he was analysing her.
“Sheldon, are you… are you really smiling now?” Penny asked, looking like she was about to laugh. There was a short pause as they faced each other in equal bemusement.“You are!” She tilted her head, taking in how much kinder he appeared. It was an entirely aesthetic appreciation, probably with more appreciation than what was necessary, but she couldn’t help but take in how much difference there was between an honest smile and fake one, particularly from Sheldon, and how she felt about it. She raised a hand to his face, lightly lifting his chin affectionately.
“You’re not pretending anymore. I can’t believe it! You look so much less like, well, you now! You-”“I don’t see how I can look less like me regardless of whether I am I truthfully smiling or not. It’s still me both times.” Sheldon cut her off shortly. He couldn’t quite figure out how he’d faked the grin to begin with only to have it develop, without his permission, into a real smile without the typical stimulus of a new limited addition comic book or an intelligent pun.
“And if I may inquire, not that I’m expecting anything intellectually fascinating or anything that could be considered useful, but what was your experiment?”Penny took a small step back. “I was thinking about whether you had dimples or not when you smile. The thought came to me yesterday, but I didn’t get to ask you about it because you were busy for most of the day.”“And was that going to be your only scientific conclusion?”“It wasn’t even meant to be a scientific experiment.”“So, you were simply indulging in your curiosity for some otherwise pointless information.” Sheldon assessed.“No! No. Well, yes.” She said, letting out a sigh. “Although, somehow, it felt like it was worth it.” She fell silent for a moment before continuing quietly. “I think you should smile more.”“What was that?”“Nothing!”
Sheldon gave her a look. “Well, for what it’s worth, I think you should smile more too.” he replied eventually, turning around to walk towards the door.“What? You really think so?” Penny looked touched.“Yes. It means I won’t have to listen to you speak as much when in your company.” he finished, stepping swiftly outside. “Goodbye, Penny. Come over in an hour if you want Thai food for dinner.”“Oh, right.” She said, taken back. “Thank you, I think.” She trudged towards the door as he made his way back to his apartment. “Goodbye, Sheldon.”

freshprince0fasgard asked: THORKI! <3 <3

Just what I needed, another OTP to come abuse my ability to feel emotions. Srsly though. And then at the end of the movie Thor, Loki totally did a Reichenbach style exit. I can’t.

Thorki is wrong!(?)

I can totally relate to your point of view, Anti Thor/Loki shippers. I mean, I don’t ship Wincest - Dean/Sam - brother/brother. I don’t sail along with Wincest because I have yet to obtain tickets to that particular ship.

So in the meanwhile, do you know what I do about it?

I DON’T GO AND TYPE IT IN AND EXPLORE/FOLLOW THAT TAG.
How about you try that with Thorki, and take your rage and put it somewhere else?
